Mission Team #11: France

Congratulations to Mission Team # 11, France! This group of talented students, led by their masterful teacher, are very familiar with the STEM world. The students worked under the guidance of Mrs. Rossi to participate in the Planète Sciences Rocketry Challenge. Together, their passion for learning shined.

We’re excited to celebrate them at the Endeavour Award Ceremony Paris Air Show on 22 June!

Scholarship Recipients

ELIANE CHEE

My name is Eliane Chée I’m a 15-year-old student and I am very honored to be able to participate in such an interesting and captivating program with people from diverse cultures and with different learning experiences. I hope and I think that it will help us grow and learn by communicating with each other and with professionals. I have always been very curious and so the stars and beyond which constitute an almost infinite amount of undiscovered or unexplored places drew my attention. That is why I already take part in a rocketry club and already participated in multiple competitions. Moreover, it seems to fascinate not only me, but many others and I hope that thanks to my passion in chemistry, physics or mathematics and thanks to experiences such as this one I’ll be able to bring my own stone to this gigantic and collective effort of understanding what surrounds us.

MATHIEU CHOLET

My name is Mathieu Cholet, and I am 15 years old. I study at the high school Jeanne d’arc, in France.  I am the youngest of my family.  I like to participate in sports, especially calisthenics. Above all I like music, I play it all the time from guitar to the drums. I like to play all instruments and learn to play others.  As far as space is concerned, I have always been curious to know what was going on in our universe, and I love everything that relates to space. I have been interested in it since a very young age. I love movies and all kinds of sources that could help me learn more about space and all the different universes around us. To continue this curiosity of space, I was part of a team that participated in a rocketry challenge, and it was a great experience. I find it very exciting and am very happy to be part of this team!

AMBRE TAPIN

My name is Ambre Tapin, I’m 15 years old. I like math, physics, and arts. I have played the recorder for 10 years in band and I did classical dance for 9 years. I have participated in many concerts and galas organized by my conservatory; it was a great experience. In my free time I like to walk around or draw. I am honored to participate in this program. I am very interested and curious about space and the mysteries of the universe. I was able to be present during some preparation courses for the Rocketry Challenge, even if I was not able to participate in its entirety.

JOSEPH BOESPFLUG

My name is Joseph Boespflug. I’m from France and I am 15 years old. I live in La Garenne Colombes, a little city about 15 minutes by train to Paris. I like math, physics, and arts. So, I chose these options for next year. I project to become an architect-engineer because I want to have a creative and scientific career.

Outside of school, I play music. I played the flute for 9 years in conservatory. I take flute and solfege courses, and I play in a Jazz Band once a week! During the year, I play in different concerts of music organized by conservatory. I love the atmosphere during a concert and next year I plan to learn guitar also. I have another hobby: scouting. I’ve been a “Scout de France” since I was 10 years old, and I love it. We are self-sufficient and have responsibilities for an organized weekend and camp. For summer holidays, I usually go to Britain for a summer camp for sailing. I would like to live close to the sea to have my own boat. It’s just a dream at least. In school, I participated in a scientific project with my teacher Mrs. Rossi. The goal was to launch a rocket at a certain height for a certain time (and other conditions) without breaking the egg inside.

Educator

Mrs. Catherine Rossi

Hello! My name is Catherine and I live in France, near Paris. After studying to be a pharmacist, I continued to study science to be able to teach. At first, I taught mathematics and physics for several years, and now I teach biology. It’s exciting, especially with the new discoveries but, students find it difficult. So, to make them love science and learn differently, I created a science workshop in my free time. This allowed us to reflect on various topics concerning health such as alcohol, tobacco, the brain, food, the heart, but also on other current topics like nuclear power plants. They created games, models, wrote reviews to explain in a simple way to their friends what they had discovered. In this way, students became interested in science and some of them became passionate.

One day, when I was looking for new ideas, I met members of the “planet sciences” association who told me about the Rocketry Challenge. Space was a new subject for me because it’s not taught in school. After a difficult year, I was passionate about aeronautics, rockets …. and my students were too!! Some of them pursue higher studies in aeronautics, boys and girls. This workshop has existed for 12 years, and it will continue.

Another thing important to me are sports. I practice skiing, climbing, tennis, cycling and walking. I can’t wait to participate in this space camp with my students. It will be an opportunity to discover a lot of things and to work with others teams. It’s an incredible opportunity to meet teams from other countries and to share experiences with them!
