Mission Patch

Mission Team #9, Bahrain

Introducing Mission Team #9, Bahrain! Maryam Alawadhi, Hasan Adbulrahman Hashem, Naser Alquooti, and Lea Janahi were the four students selected who were announced at the Bahrain International Airshow 2022.

Mission Team #9’s patch is a representation of the start of Bahrain’s progress into space-related research and investigations in cooperation with NASA. The students used traditional Bahraini symbols on their patch to represent their culture and traditions while recognizing people that came before them and paved a path for them in this industry. The patch features a traditional dallah, pearls as planets, the Light-1 Satellite, the USA flag, the Bahrain flag, and the member names in Arabic. Both visually and symbolically beautiful!

Congratulations Mission Team #9,

the Kingdom of Bahrain!

MARYAM ALAWADHI

My name is Maryam Alawadhi, I’m a 16-year-old who is passionate about multiple things the world could offer. My passion differs and is enlisted from science, technology, literature, and all the way to sports. Throughout the years I’ve had numerous experiences, opportunities, and achievements that have developed confidence in me as an enthusiast and a hard worker. The person I am today, and the woman I will be in the future is all based on what my daily activities revolve around, they range from school activities all the way to regional/ overseas competitions that I have proudly participated in. Although all are important and carry a special place in my heart, the (Endeavour scholarship ) program is particularly different and unique. Youngsters like myself, are eager to open Pandora’s box of space, by occupying ourselves with endless studies and tabloids that will fulfill our hunger to answer some of the mysteries surrounding space which is why I am personally motivated and excited to work alongside professional members at the camp within the field to help solve the ongoing questions and wonders like the actuality of life beyond the earth or the existence of supernatural creatures. I believe that being part of such a huge team and meeting new people from all around the world will not only grant me the opportunity to educate myself but also portray my country as an ambassador to serve humanity and contribute to my country’s advancement in this field and maybe one day pursue it as a lifelong career!

HASAN ADBULRAHMAN HASHEM

Hello, my name is Hasan Abdulrahman Hashem, I am a 16-year-old student from the Kingdom of Bahrain, and I am very honored to represent my country at this space camp. I really enjoy math and science subjects, especially chemistry and physics, and am interested in IT and computers. My passion for STEAM subjects made me consider studying civil engineering or computer science at university. Space is also an interesting subject to me, as I am a very curious person, and really interested in knowing more about what is going on around us. The space camp provides me with the opportunity to feed this curiosity, improve and enhance my skills in STEAM subjects, and also meet new people with similar interests.

NASER ALQOOTI

My name is Nasser Alqooti, an Ibn Khuldoon National School (IKNS) student from the Kingdom of Bahrain. This experience is exciting and exceptional as I have been passionate about science, technology, astronomy, engineering, and physics from a very young age while currently achieving outstanding academic levels in related subjects. It is such a great honor to have this opportunity, which will guide and help me achieve my goal of being a space scientist by gaining the needed knowledge from the greatest professionals in this field. When it comes to challenges, I was born to conquer them! I am a medalist and a champion of multiple championships organized by the Bahrain Swimming Association locally and in the GCC region. My ultimate ambition is to represent my beloved country the Kingdom of Bahrain in the international arena, therefore, achieving the aspirations of His majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.

LEA JANAHI

My name is Lea Janahi, and I am a 16-year-old student from the Kingdom of Bahrain. I have always known myself to be a curious person who loves to discover and learn more about the wonders of the world around me. However, questions and wonders specifically about the massive and spacious world outside the Earth’s atmosphere have always stirred my mind. Discovering more about the stars, planets, and moons, as well as the galaxies that are so far away, seems fascinating. I have yet to decide what I plan to be in the future, which is why I take any opportunity I can to help me find that path. It’s amazing to see how each area of STEAM works in its own way, however, when all five kinds of knowledge are joined together, it creates even more opportunities and varieties of learning. Being a part of this amazing experience would bring me into a whole new world of sciences and investigations.

"I'm looking forward to learning inspirational teaching methods to promote STEM and space to the future generations."

- Miss Amal AlBinali

Educator

Miss Amal

From childhood, Amal  AlBinali has dreamt of becoming an astronaut and has questioned how things work. This passion grew as she followed a path of scientific studies through high school and was offered the opportunity to become a member of the schools’ astronomy committee, studying astronomy at the Youth Innovation Centre (Formerly known as Children and Youth Science Centre). She continued to pursue her studies majoring in chemistry with a minor in computer science and a bachelor’s degree with excellence from the University of Bahrain and achieving Jaber Bin Hayan’s prize for being the best graduate within the Chemistry Graduates batch.  Amal went on to study at Strathclyde University, attaining a master’s degree in business administration (MBA).

In parallel to studying for her master’s degree, Amal worked as an astronomy teacher and then as the Scientific Exhibition Hall Supervisor in the same Center for a further 5 years, where she taught astronomy and explained various scientific experimentations and applications to school students during their Centre visit. She also trained as a chemist in the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife, and subsequently worked as a chemistry lab technician in the chemistry department at the University of Bahrain giving her the opportunity to teach and supervise students’ experimentation.

Amal has made many contributions in the scientific fields and represented the Kingdom of Bahrain at several international events.  In 2003 she submitted an invention at the “Ninth International EXPO – Science” in Russia and achieved the award for one of the best four innovations within the whole exhibition, proudly securing the Bahraini delegation the first prize, drawn from some 89 countries.  She also contributed to shaping the “Strategy for youth in the Gulf region and how they can benefit from the spare time” by representing Kingdom of Bahrain females in science fields from 2005-2007.  Additionally, she Chaired a jury panel at one of the contests held during the ‘Youthful Festival’ in the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2018.

Amal is currently working as the Chief of Strategic Planning and Projects Management Department in the National Space Science Agency (NSSA).  She has undertaken many training courses in the space science and technology field and believes that her opportunity to attend International Space Camp will further develop her skills and help her to  inspire students during her school visits, encouraging the pursuit of STEM studies.  These activities are in line with one of the main strategic goals of NSSA, which is to promote space science through awareness, developing advanced research programs and enhancing innovation.
